ASU Student Ministry
The Graduate Christian Fellowship was two years old when Jean Duerbeck arrived in August 2008 as
ASU's first InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Graduate and Faculty Ministries staff. She had prior experience with InterVarsity in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia for 26 years on numerous campuses and in training roles. She now serves GCF through Community Ministries International. Graduate Christian Fellowship is the only ministry focused entirely on Arizona State University's graduate student community of almost 14,000.
The vision is for GCF is to be a missional community of graduates who bring truth with integrity to their fields and colleagues. GCF's hope through Christ is to be an influence within and upon the university community of graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff and administrators.
Jean's priorities as Graduate Christian Fellowship's staffworker are:
- Preserving the future of GCF: Follow-up of new contacts, identifying potential GCF leaders and guiding current leaders
- Planting GCF in Scripture: Leading bible studies and training students to lead
- Equipping for ministry: Seminars on evangelism, discipleship topics, skills, and chapter strategy; opportunities for witness and service
- Making disciples: Personal bible study, spiritual direction, mentoring and counsel
- Connecting GCF to the greater Christian community: representing GCF at Evangelical Collegiate Ministry Leaders meetings and with ASU's inter-faith Council of Religious Advisors (CORA); involvement with the Aslan Society (Christian faculty and staff); co-sponsoring outreaches such as Veritas Forums with other campus organizations.
