Habitat for Humanity
The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to build simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with
families in need. Love is expressed for our community through the building of homes because we believe that everyone should have a simple, decent and affordable home. Habitat for Humanity provides an opportunity for people to put their faith and love into action, bringing groups together to make affordable housing and better communities a reality for everyone.
Members of Living Faith partner with other churches and the local Habitat for Humanity affiliates to build homes for the deserving in the Phoenix area. This coalition of churches has built over twenty homes in the Phoenic metropolitan area since 1998, serving as a witness to deserving young families. We gather on a few Saturdays each year to roof, frame, paint or do whatever it takes to finish these homes on a fourteen-week schedule. We help build two or more homes each year and occasionally, South and Central America builds are sponsored.
Help is always needed on our build days, either by providing manpower or a lunch for the work crew. Each home costs approximately $85,000 and several thousands of dollars are contributed annually as our share through the Arizona state tax credit program. When you contribute to the tax credit program through Habitat for Humanity before December 31, your state tax liability will be reduced by the amount you contribute (singles can contribute $200, married couples $400). In other words, you get your money back, dollar-for-dollar, in the form of a tax reduction.
