Teen Missions
Young people are at a formative period of their life in Christ when they pass from their teen years. We believe that they are being shaped for a life-long journey as a Jesus follower and nothing probably shapes them more than experiences of mission that requrie them to depend more on God than they are accustomed to and learn how to share the good news of Jesus with others.
Every summer, we offer our young people an opportunity to participate in a week-long missions trip that takes them out of our city and places them in a community where a real need for their service has been identified. For several years, we have partnered with YouthWorks!, a teen mission agency that prepares missions environments for service and worship.
A typical week takes young people into daily evening worship after having spent the day-time hours praying and serving people in need. They have painted houses and repaired fences for the indigent while also developing day-time programs of Bible instruction, drama and stories for the local children. Our young people have served in the inner-city of San Diego and Denver, the rural areas of Michigan, Montana and southwestern Colorado and on a reservation that serve Native American people near Reno, Nevada.
In June 2012, we will be going to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for our missions trip. If you are interested in going, please speak with Pastor Bob Fabey at 480-831-2514.
Every year, the young people return with a faith in Jesus made vibrant by their encounter with Him in the lives of those whom they served. When summer passes into the fall calendar and our students return to school, our youth program makes opportunities available from time to time to serve the community in which we live. The students seem to take great joy in loving others because the Lord has loved them so well. If you would like to learn more about the Teens Missions group and how your teen might participate, please contact Pastor Bob Fabey at the church office at 480-831-2514.
