Music

hymnsSince music has become such a defining influence in American society, the church has recognized that music preferences influence how we worship.  Music is often the main worship vehicle that helps individuals make a "God connection" in worship services.  Our music selections are derived from the Bible and from the church's hymns that have been based upon the Bible.  We encourage a variety of instruments and their use in worship.  In our worship service offerings, we allow our various congregations to influence the kind of music that is generally used, as long as the music has God at its center.  At the current time, we offer two Sunday morning worship services and music selections are based on the following guidelines:

8:30 Congregation:

  • Psalms and Biblical hymns sung to ancient plainsong melodies and Anglican chant from the church of the Middle Ages.
  • Hymns from the 16th through 20th centuries
  • Praise songs from the 20th century

Most of the music, while joyous, is played at a level where one can hear the assembly singing.  This congregation also values choral expressions of praise.

10:30 Congregation:

  • Contemporary praise choruses
  • Contemporary 21st century Christian songs

Most of the music is played at a level above where one can generally hear the assembly singing.  This congregation also values stringed instrumentation and amplified sound.

Mid-Week Worship:

  • A capella singing of ancient Biblical songs
  • Choral presentations of hymns

Most of the music is quiet and meditative in nature and intended to hep the contemporary Christian to interrupt the hurry of the day with a measure of silence and a slower pace.
