“Listening”

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.”– James 1:19

The Bible is full of scriptures on listening. From Genesis (Assemble and listen, O sons of Jacob, listen to Israel your father - Gen 49.2) through Proverbs, the prophets, and the New Testament, the Bible is full of wisdom around listening. Listening to hear and discern the will of God, listening to fellow Christian brothers and sisters, and listening to the world at large in order to represent Jesus in the midst of it. However, the world has a tendency to get us to not listen. We are tempted, distracted, shouted at, and overwhelmed. Time is in short supply, and the inclination toward it is not encouraged.

But it is this listening that the walk with Jesus is based on. We cannot obey and follow Jesus unless we listen. Listen to both God and our own brothers and sisters say. We cannot be salt and light in the world unless we listen to it to find out where the aches for Jesus are.

Come join us as Dean of Arizona Bob Fabey leads us through some exploration of God’s Word on listening - to God, to our brothers and sisters, and in the world. How can we integrate this attitude toward listening to God and others deep into our souls in this day and age? It will be a time of learning, praying, small group discussion, and fellowship in the cool pines of Prescott with your fellow Anglican brothers from across Arizona. Bishop Phil will be with us as well! We are again expanding the call tour to young men; any young man in grade 7 or up, accompanied by a parent or guardian, is welcome to join (at a reduced rate). 

Our time together will provide for deep Anglican traditions of retreat, fellowship, daily prayers, worship, and Bible study; areas that have been used for thousands of years to assist men throughout the ages to come close in and see the transformation of God. Please come and see it in action!

(5:00 PM Friday to 12:00 PM Sunday*)

*Starts with dinner at 6 pm on Friday, people start arriving and getting beds about 4 pm.  On Sunday, we have breakfast, then a Communion service to end the retreat.
